Friends,
34 Years ago Today Hurricane Frederic made Landfall.
Actually Hurricane Frederic made Landfall on the western end of Daupin Island late on the 12th of September 1979 then proceeded north up the Alabama-Miss. State-line toward Hattiesburg, MS.
Frederic destroyed the old Dauphin Island Bridge and the wind guage broke at 148 mph.
Curtains were fluttering in the wind from the 34 floor Old First National Bank Building in Downtown Mobile- now the RSA's tower where the Moon-Pie drop is held each New Year's Eve.
It was pure hell that night in Mobile, Alabama!
My family and myself stayed in the now demolished Road-Way Inn at Michigan Ave and I-10 which was damaged heavily that night.
2 x 4's were flying down the breezeway next to our room on the west side of the motel.
My family lost three businesses that night and our home on Hollingers Island South of Dog River was heavily damaged as well my parents 38' Chris-Craft moored at Dog River Marina.
I could say much more but that should be plenty for Today.
God is out there somewhere so...
God Bless, Peace, Love and Knowledge!
