1200 NASA workers to be laid off!

Friends,

The idea that 1200 NASA employees are to be laid off seems so unlikely an event in this year that marks the name of "2010 a Space Odyssey"! For a person as myself and I'm sure many of you that grew up in the 70's and 80's feeling that although we were watching such movies that were in fact science fiction but had the feel of movies that contained technology that surely could not be that far off base as to what may be available to our planet for use in this time period it seems a sad headline to read!

Yes we have one International Space Station but in my imagination when looking into the future I felt in those days that although some of what was shown in those movies may not be occurring now as presented for our minds to wonder I certainly felt some more activities leading to some wonderous discoveries for our planet and the human race lay ahead!

Not by unmanned Space Craft but by missions to at least near by planets such as Mars with technology that seemed right at our door step considering our trips to the moon had already been accomplished and Viking had ventured to Mars- A newspaper I still own Today shows the black and white photo's of the surface!

The computer on the ship depicted in "2001 A Space Odessy- Hal" and it's depiction as becoming so life-like that it the computer began to make independant decisions seemed like a strange and not so possible a thing to happen.

Of course that was in the 70's before "voice recognition", "windows", "voice-over",
"the clarity of an OnStar system", the "micro-chip" and even in my own imagination I hadn't thought much about being able to buy a 139.00 radio at Wal-mart that allowed me to speak so clearly to people over a pin-point sized mico-phone and they to speak so clearly back to me over either 2 or 4 speakers in my automobile that it would seem almost as if they were in the automobile with me!

In fact if you were spoken to in that manner over a "blue-tooth" network without your prior knowledge you would be astonished at your response! I can assure you of that!

No in my imagination we would have easily available the technology that would transmit our voice and image from anywhere on this planet to another or into space to our family and friends but not with out our knowledge or the ability to turn such a system off or on with-out the other parties knowledge!

Unfortunately that technology has been used in ways so detrimental to some people's lives they have been harmed to the point of taking their own lives a thing that a young person in the 70's that had not known such deceit and had such a positive outlook for the future did not take into account!

Now when the technology exists to take us to places that our planet and the human race may actually discover some wonderous thing that could make life on this planet better for everyone our Space Program is being limited while other nations such as China are moving forward with much success which as an American and a Democrat that idolizes such hero's as John F. Kennedy for placing us in a position to be first and to reamin foremost in the area outside our on little beautiful planet, we may I am afraid due to our obligations over seas- brought upon us by a small group of people that are Hell bent on punishing us for NOT being of their beleifs which are not it seems the beleif of their own religion or faith!

My parents used to have an intercom in their office in the 70's that worked via the power outlet that seemed so crude at the time because of the sound quality but it led to many a time when I thought of the future but I had no idea what that improved technology could lead to nor did I understand that it would be used for possible harassment of individuals as it is Today!

Let's stop sometimes and think a moment about where we are and try to imagine using our technology for the good of the human race even in these times of war and the unfettered use of our technology for the detriment of the human race and not as it should be!

Our enemies may use some of this same technology against us if we don't stand strong commit the resources as a nation to eliminate them abroad by using both our military, intelligence and diplomatic efforts along with but not least of which is our ability to prove they our enemies are fighting against something or an ideal that is not a threat to them but allows them to exist as long as they themselves observe common humanity as it is taught in all religions, faith's and philosophies! That is that I have ever in my uneducated world have had the time to study while trying to make a living, provide for my family and live long enough to see the day that seems threatened by our divisiveness as a people that also makes us the unique country that we are in these United States, the countries of our allies both in the western world and globally.

Yes it does seem that the world has become more diverse in many places and that seems to create fear among a segment of the populations of all nations but most of us beleive in one GodEarth seem to be the one's that are most easily led to the slaughter by those fears making it impossible or seemingly impossible for an idealist like my self or hopefully many more to envision our dreams of the people of this planet doing what should be possible by some means now in the 21st Century and in fact heading into the second decade of this Century!

Maybe not! I look at things from that "worst case scenario" stance first now in my life and hope for the best! In my youth I looked for only the best outcome never expecting the worst because until the last few years I felt hard work would off-set the possibility of anything but the best case scenario being fullfilled if you kept yourself on the high ground physically, mentally or spiritually!

It would be nice to see a return to that ideal in my own life as well as that of not only those citizens of our country but also that of the rest of the world!

Crazy it sounds, insane to some but I doubt to the majority!

P.S.- I finally found Space 1999! If you have never seen it you should. It was my favorite show other than Star Trek and it came on at 10:30 on Saturday night!
